Futon/Guest Bed

So, here is our custom built couch that turns into a guest bed. The couch has a hinged plywood seat that unfolds so the futon mattress can fit on it flat for a bed. The two doors on the front of the couch lead to a storage space underneath, but also serve as the legs that the plywood rests on when its a bed.  And, being only a few feet away from the wood stove, its the coziest seat in the house!

  1. ..just found your blog from MellishFieldsWest.com . Really neat idea and looks great. I always wondered what it would be like to live in a bus and now that I have found your blog I can find out! I love it! Less is more!..I wish I had your carpentry skills too!

  2. Thanks! Once we got rolling with the project it all started coming together! I'm glad we did it in such a short time-frame so we kept up momentum. I do think there are a few things we'll change (including this futon) which we'll post updates about. A couple projects we just blasted through so we could move in. It's really nice to live in so far...

  3. I just found your blog via a link from another blog. Yay!

The futon is pure genius. I admire you both for living as you do. I lack the courage so can now live vicariously! Thanks. :)

  4. Thank you very much! As we started the project brought together the roles in the future! I am glad that we have in a short period of time, so that we can keep the momentum. I think some of the things that we can change (including this futon), we will update this post. Some projects are what we are, just because we can assume that could move. This is really good so far in life.
